Skills Utilized
• Reverse Engineering
• Database Optimization
• Offshore Operations
Technologies Utilized
• Oracle PL/SQL
Problem
Ongoing maintenance of the core database was a constant need that was demanding ever increasing resources to meet the required quality and timeliness goals. As the source data originates from many different agencies and systems there was a wide variety of formats and data quality issues that needed to be managed. In addition, the format and content of this data is very dynamic and would change constantly without warning.
The business objective was to implement a process and system that would make maintenance of this database more efficient, standardized, and cost-effective while maintaining the required timeliness and data quality.
Solution

The Digital Group engineers reviewed the existing load process to capture the rules and relationships in formal documentation. They then created a powerful data mapping tool to validate and cleanse the source data before it is loaded into the production environment through optimized loading procedures

After creating this optimized system, The Digital Group took responsibility for ongoing operational support and now performs this activity at their offshore facility on behalf of the client.

Result
By implementing the solution proposed by The Digital Group, the client was able to achieve all the desired benefits and improved both their operational efficiency and product quality thereby improving competitiveness. Some of the specific benefits achieved include:
  • Operational cost savings
    • Utilizing high quality / low cost offshore resources
    • Reduced duplication & redundancy of process steps
  • Reduced error rate and increased efficiency
    • Implemented process centric approach to the entire data management function
    • Perform validation of source data before loading
    • Extensively documented all processes
  • Improved service levels
    • Systematic process ensures timeliness of data
    • Implementing 24x7 support model
