A sophisticated customer information management system is used internally to support the fulfillment of services. This distributed system is used by both its internal employees as well as the fast network of suppliers.

Problem
The custom internal system was last implemented over a decade ago using client server technology that, while state of the art at the time of implementation, had become outdated with the wide adoption of the internet and needed to by updated. In addition, many of the specific business rules embedded in the system were not documented completely anywhere outside of the system and therefore needed to be reconstructed and updated to reflect current and future business goals.
Solution
The Digital Group’s engineers designed and implemented a web based application to replace the existing legacy system. This project involved a full life-cycle development effort from requirements through deployment. Some of the specific tasks included:
  • Cleanup and migration of legacy data to Oracle 9i database.
  • Build the new application using .net framework in a three-tier model.
  • Utilize the existing client’s framework to develop the application which will help in easier maintenance and less cost.
  • Provide rich documentation and user manual for the usage and maintenance of new system.
The team provided by The Digital Group included resource divided across three separate locations
  • Offshore ( Pune, India),
  • Offsite ( Princeton NJ, US),
  • Onsite-Client (New York City, US)
By utilizing resources at all three locations the client was able to achieve the maximum value for each type of resource employed. The Digital Group managed the coordination of the resources at these remote sites thereby freeing the client from needed to supervise this complicated process. The Digital Group also provided Quality Assurance services for the web-application, during QA phase. After 2 years of continuous efforts and hard work the project went live.
