User Interface Standards

Client Profile

A global financial services company with separately managed geography based business units. Historically IT was managed locally in the individual units but had recently been reorganized into a single global organization. The IT department had the task of rationalizing their application portfolio and had selected a portal based approach to integrate and simplify their various applications.

Problem

The business analysts in the IT department who were each only familiar with their own applications now had to build applications that all worked together. This required that a common set of functional and visual standards be established. It was also desired that the analysts be able to create sample screens that looked as close as possible to the final result without having to use detailed HTML coding.

Solution

The Digital Group provided a team of User Interface specialists to initially define the appropriate user interface guidelines and create Visio templates that could be used by the analysts to create highly accurate screen mock-ups. They then provided training on these templates and assisted with the implementation of the initial projects to insure correct application.
After creating this optimized system, The Digital Group took responsibility for ongoing operational support and now performs this activity at their offshore facility on behalf of the client.

Result

By implementing the standards, templates, and training provided by The Digital Group, the client was able to achieve greater consistency in new application functionality and is progressing towards a single integrated suite of applications.
