Microsoft Silverlight, an advanced platform for rich internet application, is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET-based media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the Web. Silverlight will provide a flexible programming model that supports AJAX, Visual Basic .NET, C#, Python, and Ruby and integrates it with existing Web applications. By using Expression Studio and Visual Studio, designers and developers can collaborate more effectively using their present skills.
Microsoft’s Silverlight integrates multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime. It is being designed to work in concert with XAML and is scriptable with JavaScript. XAML can be used for marking up the vector graphics and animations. Silverlight supports playback of VC-1 video content across all supported browsers without requiring the Windows Media Player ActiveX control or Windows Media browser plugins.
Content created with Microsoft’s Silverlight can be more searchable and indexable than that created with Flash as it is not compiled, but represented as text (XAML). Silverlight makes it possible to dynamically load XML content that can be manipulated through a DOM interface, a technique that is consistent with conventional Ajax techniques. Silverlight exposes a Downloader object which can be used to download content, like scripts, media assets or other data, as required by the application. It also supports common dynamic programming languages like Ruby and Python, which are more flexible and syntactically expressive than JavaScript or ActionScript.

SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a server-based report generation software system from Microsoft. It can be used to prepare
and deliver a variety of interactive and printed reports. Reporting services features a web services interface to support the development
of custom reporting applications. SQL 2005 reporting services also support ad hoc reports: the designer develops a report schema and
deploys it on the reporting server, where the user can choose relevant fields/data and generate reports. Users can then download the
reports locally.
InfoPath forms enable the quick collection of information in a consistent, structured way that can then be validated against predefined business rules. InfoPath forms are XML-based. Therefore, important business data can be shared and reused across the organization. In InfoPath, the user can complete a form while off-line. InfoPath may check some fields on the form for validity, and the user can attach a digital signature. The user later connects to the server and submits the form (in XML format), which may be routed for approval. When the user connects to the server, the form template may be automatically updated.
